Name: “The Persistence of Dali” Bowed Psaltery No. 2390
Description
Cherry, one of Americas most beautiful woods is, fortunately, relatively common. Curly Cherry, on the other hand is, decidedly, not common but rather rare, unlike Curly Maple. Cherry, unlike Maple and almost all othr woods, changes color. It is photoreactive and turns darker as it is exposed to light. This piece has no stain and will, naturally, turn darker (the traditional dark cherry red) as it is exposed to light. (Note that the Display Piece is darker than the Psaltery. This will eventually even out as it is exposed to lignt and ages.) As it darkens, the contrast between the Cherry and the light Holly will intensify. An elusive Ebony Dragonfly flits across the Cherry ripples on wings of reconstituted stone. The blue and white of the recon. stone form a bright contrast to the darkening Cherry.
Please note that this is Bowed Psaltery No. 2400. Since I began making instruments many years ago I have maintained the tradition that every “Century Instrument” (100th) is made of Cherry and No. 2400 is no exception. What IS different about No. 2400 is that this is the first “Century Instrument” for which I havae made a Wall Display Piece. This one-of-a-kind Wall Display Piece was designed specifically for No. 2400. While the sweeping curves of the Display Piece contrast and compliment the straight lines of the Psaltery, the continuity from the Psaltery to the Wall Display Piece is maintained with the darkening Cherry and the light Holly and Curly Maple as well as the blue and white of the recon. stone.
This piece will make a unique, charming and eye-catching hanging centerpiece.
