Name: “The Humming Bird’s Flight of Fantasy” Dulcimer No. 528

Description:

This jewel is quite possible the most beautiful instrument that I have ever made.  This wood, Curly East Asian  Ebony, and especially the curly part, is extremely rare.  (The only way that I was able to get this wood was to use half of it to make a dulcimer for the woodworker who owned it –he would not sell any.)  The extremely rich and varied ribbons of color aare enhanced by the ripple of the curl as well as the bookmatching.  The Wall Display Pieve frames and accentuates the Dulcimer by maintaining the continuity of the gently curves whily drawing the eye inward toward the truly astounding beauty of the Curly East Asian Ebony.  This unique, one-of-a-kind piece will surely adorn and grace a wall to the pride and pleasure of the owner and the wonder and, perhaps, a touch of envy from friends.  Oh would that I were able to get some more of this magnificent wood!

The name of this piece comes from the small taqua nut (vegetable ivory) Humming Bird inlaid on the fretboard.
