“The Persistence of Dali” Bowed Psaltery No. 2390

Name: “The Persistence of Dali” Bowed Psaltery No. 2390

Description

For many years I have been fascinated by the work of the early 20th Century Spanish artist, Salvador Dali.  In this piece I have taken images from one of Dali’s most famous works, “The Persistence of Memory,” and inlaid them in a psaltery.  I have also engraved and inlaid an ivory image of Dali, himself, staring down at the images as if to say, “What the heck is going on here?”

The display hanger incorporates the same image of the desolate tree with the psaltery hanging from it in lieu of the melted clock.

In addition to the engraved image of Dali staring down, I have added another idea of my own.  While fascinating and enthralling as the images in the “Persistence of Memory” may be, they still project a sense of stark desolation.  The subtle image of the breast at the top of the display, projecting a sense of human wormtn and nurture, offers a hint of hope in the face on the stark desolation.
